I hear the theme song from Twilight Zone. Doo-dee-doo-da, doo-dee-doo-da.

Don't get it ... security purpose or? Were people told to keep off the streets?
Yes, about 7 major streets through town were completely shut for Bush's visit. Cars and pedestrians were forbidden from even being on these streets. As a result, a holiday was declared and people were advised to stay home - which is what I did. This major road, Sheikh Zayed Road, is 12 lanes of traffic on most days. One of my collegues who was here from Europe was staying in a hotel on SZR and he took these pictures. For me, seeing the chaos of this road every day outside my office, this photo is the most eerie sight - like everyone was lifted and taken by aliens.

There's a great Sting song about Rain in the Dessert.
