While you're at it, get two.
A University of Minnesota research study has found that cat owners have a reduced risk of dying from a heart attack http://health.usnews.com/usnews/health/healthday/080221/cats-help-shield-owners-from-heart-attack.htm. Possibly dog owners have the same benefit, but there weren't enough dog owners in the study to draw conclusion.
The reduced risks were as low as taking heart or cholesterol medication - but without the risks or side effects of those drugs.
There's nothing like a purring kitty to calm your mind.
