House in Mirdif

OK, I finally remembered to bring the cable with me to download photos off the camera. Here are pictures of our new villa in Mirdif. This is a picture of the six villas in our compound. There are 3 villas along the right and 3 behind them. Ours is the last one on the right.

Russell is actually standing in front of the neighbors door and garage. Our front gate is the next doorway along and our garage door is the partially open one. There is a single garage door beyond that which is for the neighbor's parking area of the villa that is behind ours.

When you enter through our gate, there is a small front area with parking for 2 cars and the front door. The reflective doors on the right are the entry for the Maid's quarters. The room is quite small - I don't even know how you would fit a single bed in there along with a dresser and have any place to walk around. There is also a private bathroom with shower. The shoes in front of the maid's quarters are from one of the workmen. The house is still under construction and they are using this room for break room during the afternoon. There is a law that during July and August, all workmen must have off from 12:30 to 3:30 (due to the heat.) The workmen at this site have a nice place to escape to and take an afternoon siesta to recharge for the hot afternoon ahead.

When you walk in the front door, you enter into a great room which is a living room/dining room space. I'm standing in what would probably be the dining room and taking a picture toward the back of the house and the back patio with the pool. On the right, the stairway railing is covered in plastic to protect the decorative railing from dust and construction damage.

For those that asked, we will be keeping the tiles. They are not extra with this flat. They are actually very nice marble tiles..

Here is a picture of the kitchen from the doorway. It is actually very unusual to have the appliances included in the apartments. Typically, the tenant is required to provide their own. As in Europe, the laundry is in the kitchen. This is a combination washer/dryer unit. We had a unit like this in London. Really, the intent is to get the clothes damp and then hang them on drying racks.

Here is another picture of the kitchen standing over by the washer/dryer. There is a piece from the stove hood that hasn't yet been installed.

This is a picture of one of the bedrooms. I think it is the one that we plan to be the guest room. The door on the left leads out to a nice balcony overlooking the front of the house. They all look pretty much like this. Two or three of them have balconies. Each one has their own bathroom - some bigger than others.

Here is a picture of the rooftop terrace that is connected to the master room. I told Russell that we can put a carpet, some chairs, and a sisha pipe (hookah) out here for a nice relaxing evening retreat. Unfortunately, I'm standing right next to the airconditioning unit, so we'll have to put up some screening or planting to block that view. I'm planning to put some bouganvillea up here to grow over the pergola and help create some shade for the area.

Here is the backyard pool area. As you can tell, it is a pretty small patio area. But it is nice to have a private pool. All the other villas we viewed had either shared pools or no pools at all. The pool is quite deep - the same depth all around. It's hard to tell exactly, maybe 6 feet?

Sweet! A place for the Kantors to stay. Ellia's already talking about it.

Wow! Your new home is fascinating. It reminds me very much of Santa Fe-style architecture. It looks pretty comfortable.

Please - everyone - come visit us! Send your neighbors, send your friends, send the kids.

The Southwestern architecture is popular here. The climate here is obviously very similar and so the styles translate very well.

NICE! I was hoping you'd get a place with a pool. First thing I thought of was Southwestern architecture. I now know where Dubai is located - went on the internet and checked out a world map, had an idea but was not sure.
Where's the nearest "Greenman"!
